USA, 1970s   California modern craft movement blanket chest in solid, exotic shedua wood by Gerald McCabe. Beautiful joinery detail at the sides.   McCabe (1927-2010) had a distinguished career working with many of the preeminent furniture designers of his time. Notably, some of his designs were featured in Case Study House #21 by Pierre Koenig. McCabe created post-World War II modern furniture collections for Los Angeles firms including Brown Saltman and Glenn of California, and in the 1960s and '70s he designed and produced his own lines under the names Erin Furniture and Orange Crate Modern.   This piece is crafted in beautiful exotic solid shedua- very similar in tone to old growth teak- and is just begging for styling with winter blankets and throws. Some light marks / rubbing pictured on the sides, overall in very good original condition.   DIMENSIONS: 41.5" W x 20.5" D x 16" H
