French Style Dining Chairs with Carved Faux Rope Frames

USA, 1970s

French style dining chairs with carved rope and tassel design. Designed and manufactured by Andre Originals, a custom furniture manufacturer in Brooklyn, New York specializing in finely carved wood pieces. The company was founded in the 1950s by Andre and Jeanette Blitz. Caned backs could be either re-caned or upholstered. Labels on underside are marked 'Andre Originals Mfg Co. Linden, NJ'. Each carved leg has a gentle curve and terminates in a faux rope 'knot'.

CONDITION NOTES: These chairs are so cool but they do need full restoration. Three out of the four chairs have structural issues and need service to the frame. Seat upholstery needs to be redone- they were badly covered with a green vinyl and we have removed one vinyl covering from the seat of one chair to see what's underneath- that seat cover is ripped. Caned backs have some breaks to the caning as pictured. The foam seats are soft and comfortable. Frames appear to have been painted white at some point and the finish is uneven. Chair frames have allover scratches as pictured.
