USA, 1950s   Round coffee table with an inset travertine top. The travertine top is polished and in a starburst pattern. It is a unique design where the travertine marble top is about 1/2" thick and is mounted to a plywood substrate. The top is inset to the mahogany frame, so the edge is hidden. The result is that the top is not obscenely heavy as marble tends to be- it is made lighter by the plywood it is mounted to. The visual effect is the same as it would be with a solid travertine, minus the weight. The frame of the table is in bleached sorrel mahogany- it has sculpted Asian-inspired details at the legs. Made by Widdicomb- unsigned. The frame could be refinished if desired in a solid color lacquer or in a dark mahogany for more contrast with the travertine. Underside is marked 432 / #3448 W M.    CONDITION NOTES: Very light marks to the finish on the frame; travertine top has a couple of very, very fine hairlines visible at the top center, pictured.   DIMENSIONS: 40" Diameter x 15 1/8" H
